Special card honors San Diego FC’s achievements and offers fans a new way to show their hometown pride
San Diego – This year, San Diego FC ushered in a new era in local sports with the arrival of Major League Soccer in San Diego. In celebration for the club’s historic and highly successful first-ever season, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) partnered with San Diego FC to release limited-edition San Diego FC PRONTO cards. The new cards are available for purchase ($2) beginning Sept. 24. A limited supply will also be free for fans going to the last regular season home game this weekend.
“San Diego FC has brought a new sense of hometown pride during its inaugural season, and now fans can carry that pride on their transit pass,” said Stephen Whitburn, MTS Board Chair and San Diego City Councilmember. “This special PRONTO card is a fun way to celebrate the team’s success, the excitement they’ve brought to our community, and to cheer them on as they head into the postseason.”
The custom PRONTO card features a sleek design that incorporates San Diego FC’s crest and signature white-and-gray palette. The city welcomed its first Major League Soccer team earlier this year and the club has been a roaring success, being the first team in the league to clinch a berth for the postseason playoffs. The San Diego Trolley has also been part of the season’s success, carrying nearly 4,000 fans to Snapdragon Stadium on match days.
“This partnership with MTS is another way we’re connecting with our community and celebrating what has been a historic first season,” said Jennifer Bower, San Diego FC EVP of Premium, Ticketing & Partnerships. “The San Diego FC PRONTO card gives our fans a unique way to carry their hometown pride with them every day, and we’re grateful to MTS for making it easier for thousands of fans to come together at Snapdragon Stadium all season long.”
Fans looking to add the special PRONTO card to their wallet will have an opportunity to receive one (while supplies last) ahead of the San Diego FC’s last home match of the regular season at Snapdragon Stadium. MTS will host a pre-match activation near the Trolley’s Stadium Station from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
Additionally, MTS will provide increased Trolley service to and from Snapdragon Stadium to accommodate the large crowds. Fans can take the Green Line Trolley to Stadium Station which is just steps away from all the action. Trolley service details can be found on MTS's San Diego FC vs. San Jose webpage.
The commemorative San Diego FC PRONTO card is part of MTS’s PRONTO Community Celebration Program. This card program is designed to highlight and celebrate the various communities of San Diego, focusing on the people, partners, and cultures that make the transit system and region thrive. Future planned commemorative PRONTO card artwork includes Black History Month (February 2026).
The limited-edition PRONTO cards are available at the MTS Transit Store, ticket-vending machines at select Trolley stations, and select station and stadium activations. People can also call PRONTO Support to purchase a card over the phone (619-595-5636).
