“Friends Ride Free” promotion in place for Thanksgiving Day
San Diego – San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus and Trolley services will operate primarily on a Sunday schedule on Thursday, Nov. 23, and most service will return to a regular weekday schedule on Friday, Nov. 24.
Thursday, Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving Day): All Trolley lines, Rapid, urban, and local bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. No service will be provided on Rapid Express Routes 280 or 290, Sorrento Valley COASTER Connection, most Express bus routes or the Vintage Trolley (SDG&E Silver Line). MTS Access subscriptions are cancelled on Thanksgiving. Subscription passengers who still want service must call to arrange their transportation.
Friday, Nov. 24: All Trolley lines and MTS urban and local bus routes will operate normal weekday schedules. Rapid Express Routes 280 and 290 will operate on a modified service schedule with decreased frequency.
Support Services: The Transit Store, Compass Service, MTS Information & Trip Planning, and Customer Service offices will all close at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 22 and remain closed on Thanksgiving Day. Customers who need MTS information on Thursday can visit the MTS website or download the mobile app OneBusAway for real-time information. The offices will reopen on Friday, Nov. 24 with regular business hours.
Holiday Weekend Promotions! On Thanksgiving Day, MTS allows a friend to ride free with a fare-paying customer on all MTS routes. On Saturday and Sunday, MTS allows up to two children (age 12 and under) to ride free with a fare-paying adult (age 18 or older) on all MTS routes.
MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday, 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services in 10 cities and unincorporated areas of the county. In FY 2017, MTS served more than 88 million riders.
