Trolley Service Ramping Up for Sellout Crowds Expected During NL West Showdown at Petco Park

Ride the Trolley and skip the traffic all week for Padres games

San Diego – The San Diego Padres are gearing up for a weeklong homestand against divisional rivals, attracting sellout crowds for all seven games. To move more than 280,000 fans visiting Petco Park over the seven-game homestand, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is providing extra Trolley service before and after each game, helping fans avoid gridlock and parking costs.

The NL West rivalry showdown begins Monday, Aug. 18, with a 4-game series against the San Francisco Giants. The rivalry continues into the weekend with a sizzling series beginning Friday, Aug. 22, against the Los Angeles Dodgers

Whether you’re cheering for the hometown heroes or their divisional rivals, the Trolley is the fastest, easiest way to reach the action straight through the stadium entrances.

Pre-Game Service – All Games

  • All Trolley Lines: Trolleys will serve all stations every 15 minutes or better, with extra service added to the Green Line closer to game time.

Post-Game Service – Aug. 18, 19, 20 & 23 (Night Games)

  • UC San Diego Blue Line: Trolleys will depart downtown San Diego every 15 minutes to San Ysidro and to UTC.
  • Green Line: Trolleys will depart downtown San Diego every 15 minutes, with extra trips as needed from Gaslamp Quarter Station until crowds diminish.
  • Orange Line: Trolleys will depart downtown San Diego every 15 minutes after the game ends until crowds diminish.

Post-Game Service – Aug. 21 & 24 (Day Games)

  • UC San Diego Blue Line: Trolleys will depart downtown San Diego every 7.5 minutes to San Ysidro and 15 minutes to UTC after the Aug. 21 game and every 15 minutes (both directions) after the Aug. 24 game.
  • Green Line: Trolleys will depart downtown San Diego every 15 minutes, with extra trips as needed from Gaslamp Quarter Station until crowds diminish.
  • Orange Line: Trolleys will depart 12th & Imperial every 15 minutes after the game ends.

Parking Options

Fans can park at one of MTS’ free Park & Ride lots throughout the Trolley system. The most convenient locations are:

  • Old Town Transit Center (Green Line and UC San Diego Blue Line North – 400+ free parking spots)
    • Overflow parking option available across the street at Caltrans District 11 – After 5 p.m. Weekdays & All Weekend Only (4050 Taylor St., San Diego, CA, 92110 – 300+ additional free parking spots)
  • Morena/Linda Vista (Green Line – 200 spaces, most parking available off Friars Road)
  • Grossmont Transit Center (Green Line and Orange Line – 220 free parking spots)
  • El Cajon Transit Center (Green Line and Orange Line – 400+ free parking spots)
  • Amaya Drive (Green Line and Orange Line – 230 free parking spots)
  • Spring Street (Orange Line – 235 free parking spots)
  • H Street (UC San Diego Blue Line South – 300 free parking spots)
  • E Street (UC San Diego Blue Line South – 265 free parking spots)
  • Balboa Avenue Transit Center (UC San Diego Blue Line North – 225 free parking spots)
  • Tecolote Station (UC San Diego Blue Line North – 275 free parking spots)

Easy Ways to Pay Your Fare

Contactless Payment: Fans now have the option to simply tap a credit card or other contactless payment options, such as a smartphone or smartwatch, on a station validator to pay for a one-way ride ($2.50, valid for two hours). This allows fans to bypass the ticket machine and speed up boarding times.

Kids ride free! Families going to the baseball games can save money by taking MTS. During weekends, two children 12 and under ride for free with every paying adult. Youth ages 18 and under with a registered Youth PRONTO card or app account can ride free with the Youth Opportunity Pass.

PRONTO: Fans can download the PRONTO app in advance and load at least $5, which covers a round-trip fare for adult riders. All riders must tap or scan on Trolley platform validators to activate their pass prior to boarding. 

Every person needs their own payment option, you cannot buy fares for multiple people on the same account, card or payment method.
