San Diego – There will be no Trolley service on the UC San Diego Blue line between the E Street in Chula Vista and Iris Ave. stations beginning tonight at 10 p.m. Two bus bridges – an Express that provides non-stop service between the two stations, and a Shuttle that provides service to the H Street, Palomar Street and Palm Avenue stations – will be available to riders. Normal service is expected to resume for the first scheduled trips on Tuesday morning.
MTS Security personnel will be at impacted stations during the bus bridge to help direct riders and answer questions. MTS will also be making announcements on trains to help keep riders informed about the service. Riders should plan accordingly and schedule extra time. MTS will provide regular updates on Twitter (@sdmts) and on the website (www.sdmts.com).
The closure is due to on-going work to improve signaling communications systems for freight operations. New systems were installed over the weekend. Testing will occur tonight.
Riders on the UC San Diego Blue Line will experience up to 20-minute delays throughout Monday, including the evening commute.
MTS operates 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway. Every weekday more than 300,000 passenger trips are taken on MTS bus and Trolley services. MTS is expecting to set a new record this year with more than 97 million riders. For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.
