Headed to downtown La Mesa, or downtown San Diego? Either way, the Trolley takes you there!
With parking and traffic hassles in downtown communities, the Orange Line provides convenient access to La Mesa residents and visitors for less.
With three stops in La Mesa - Grossmont Center, La Mesa Village, and Spring Street - you are just a one-seat ride from downtown San Diego, in just about 30 minutes or less.
Park for free at several MTS Park & Ride lots in La Mesa, then, hop on the Trolley for just $2.50 one-way. Your one-way fare includes free transfers for two hours - that's just $5 round-trip!
Plus, paying for transit is easier than ever before. You can now use your contactless credit or debit card right on a PRONTO validator to get a one-way Adult fare. (Discounted fares for seniors must be purchased through PRONTO.)

Whether you want an option for a single ride, a Month Pass, or to pay-as-you-go, PRONTO and contactless payments make getting onboard easier than ever. See below for highlights, and visit our Ways to Pay page for more details.
Contactless Payments:
- Great for infrequent riders who want the fastest option
- Simply tap your credit or debit card on a PRONTO validator to pay a one-way fare ($2.50), which gives you free transfers for two hours
- Adult fares only, no fare capping
PRONTO App or Card:
- Great for infrequent riders, and/or for people who want to get the best fare
- Also good for people who qualify for discounted fares
- Download the app (free) or get a card at any Trolley station ticket machine (one-time $2 fee)
- Load money onto your card (minimum $3), then tap every time you ride. A one-way fare is deducted, up to the value of a Day Pass in a Day ($6 Adult), or Month Pass in a calendar month
- You can set your card to auto-reload for you when money gets low, too.
Cash Fares:
- Cash fares are available for riders, but do not include free transfers.
- Cash fares can be a good option for seniors who do not travel often, and are just making a round-trip in a day, who do not want to register through PRONTO
In recent years, MTS has made a concerted effort and investment to provide greater security to people riding the transit system.
We've increased our Code Compliance staff (CCI) by 60%, expanded our homeless outreach team, added lighting, and more.
These efforts, and more, resulted in MTS being one of only two transit agencies nationwide to receive the highest safety award from the Transit Security Administration.
