Riders currently using a reduced or free transit fare (including the Youth Opportunity Pass) that got their SDM or Youth card from a community event, school, or community organization, or who called in over the phone or online since July 2021, were given temporary approval for a reduced fare. You must provide a document that proves you qualify for an SDM or Youth PRONTO account by June 30, 2024 to keep riding with your discount. If you miss this deadline, your account will be converted back to standard Adult pricing. Once verified as an SDM or Youth rider, people will not need to travel with proof of eligibility on board. The verification is a one-time process for most riders as well.
To assist riders with this transition, MTS will be holding pop-up events at various transit centers to help verify riders’ eligibility as SDM or Youth riders on-site. To verify your eligibility in-person, the applicant must be present. Riders will be required to take a photo to include with their account, so the SDM or Youth rider must be present, no exceptions. (Riders can also apply online through RidePRONTO.com.)
You must have a PRONTO card (virtual or physical), and one of the following forms of ID:
- A valid government-issued photo ID with birthdate (for seniors and youth), this may include passports, permanent residency cards, foreign government IDs and more.
- Medicare card + government-issued photo ID
- DMV Placard ID (Receipt) + a government-issued photo ID
- Veterans Administration Award Letter confirming a minimum 50% service connected disability + government-issued photo ID
- K-12 School ID (for youth)
- Proof of K-12 School Enrollment (for youth)
- NCTD or other California transit agency unexpired reduced fare disabled or complementary paratransit ID + government-issued photo ID (if no photo included on disabled ID)
