2. Thrift Store Challenge
If you’re looking for a low-key way to celebrate Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank (which, let’s face it – is easy to do these days), here’s a fun challenge for a date with either your partner or your besties! Set a limit, say $15. Choose one of two challenges:
- Find a gift for $15 or less OR
- Find an outfit for your partner or friend for $15 (which they must wear on your next outing)
Either way, it's a chance to bond, laugh and maybe even score a little vintage swag!

3. Give Back to the Community
Instead of a fancy dinner this year, find a meaningful way to connect and strengthen your bond by making a difference together. Collaborate on creating care packages for seniors and the unsheltered or write heartwarming letters to isolated seniors who could use a little bit of joy
4. Create a Date Night Jar
Go to the dollar store and get a jar (glass jar, mason jar, anything with a lid). Decorate the jar. Fill it with slips of paper (or write on small popsicle sticks) with various date night ideas in it. Once filled, you and your partner can take turns picking out dates to go on throughout the year. This suggestion is a no-brainer for folks with a sweet tooth. You may want to combine a dessert outing with another item on this list! San Diego has no shortage of delectable dessert spots, and these picks are all accessible by Trolley or bus.

8. White Elephant Gift Exchange + A Pink-Themed Date
This idea is geared toward you and your girlfriends. Have everyone bring a gift. Some fun theme ideas could be “Gifts from Your Ex”, “Dollar Store Only”, “Handmade or Thrifted”, or “Something Pink”. Get together for some coffee or brunch at one of these fun “pink” themed cafes or restaurants:
