Monday Commuters: MTS will run modified service Monday, December 26
San Diego- An exciting holiday week is coming to San Diego with the first-ever Holiday Bowl Game hosted at Petco Park, followed by the Sky Show fireworks display. More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the game between University of Oregon and the University of North Carolina on Wednesday, December 28. In addition to the game, there will also be the annual Holiday Bowl Parade that morning, a 5K and more. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is encouraging attendees to avoid traffic jams and street closures by taking the Trolley to the festivities. Dozens of free Park & Ride locations along the system make it easy and hassle-free to get to the events. MTS is will also have some service changes over the Christmas holiday weekend.
Holiday Bowl Parade, Wednesday, December 28 at 10 a.m.
The parade route is on Harbor Drive, between the San Diego Waterfront Park and Seaport Village. All Trolley lines lead to stops near the parade. Fans are encouraged to travel early to get a prime viewing spot.
- UC San Diego Blue Line from UTC: Get off at Santa Fe Depot and take Green Line to Seaport Village, Convention Center, or Gaslamp Quarter.
- UC San Diego Blue Line from San Ysidro/Orange Line: Get off at 12th & Imperial and take Green Line to Gaslamp Quarter, Convention Center, or Seaport Village.
- Green Line: Get off at Seaport Village, Convention Center, or Gaslamp Quarter.
Holiday Bowl Game at Petco, December 28, kick-off at 5 p.m.
All three Trolley lines serve Petco Park.
- Green Line: Take the Trolley's Green Line to the Gaslamp Quarter Station. Trains depart all stations every 15 minutes throughout the day.
- UC San Diego Blue Line: From UC San Diego Blue Line station north of downtown, take the Blue Line toward San Ysidro. Get off at 12th & Imperial Transit Center.
- From UC San Diego Blue Line station south of downtown, take the Blue Line toward America Plaza or UTC to the 12th & Imperial Transit Center.
- Orange Line: Take the Orange Line toward Courthouse to the 12th & Imperial Transit Center. Trains depart every 15 minutes
Post-Game: Service will run every 15 minutes on all lines for approximately 45 minutes post-game. Additional service will be added as needed.
Free Park & Rides
- Dozens of transit centers allow free parking when taking transit to the game. See the full list of Park & Ride lots and number of spaces available.
Buying Your Transit Fare:
- Use your phone as your Trolley pass with PRONTO. Fans are encouraged to download the PRONTO app and add enough money ($5) for a round-trip. Please note: limit one pass per phone.
- Fans can also buy a PRONTO card and load $5 for the round-trip at any Trolley station ticket machine.
- Fans must tap their card or scan their app at a station validator before boarding the Trolley.
Monday, December 26, Observed Christmas Holiday Service:
Normal service will run for Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24. On Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, MTS bus routes will operate a normal Sunday schedule, all three Trolley lines will run every 30-minutes, all day.
Modified service is planned for Monday, December 26 as an observed holiday:
- MTS will run buses and Trolleys on a Saturday service schedule.
- No service on any route without Saturday service, including Rapid Express Routes 280 & 290, and the Sorrento Valley COASTER Connection.
- Closed: Transit Store, PRONTO Support Center and Customer Service.
- MTS Information and Trip Planning: Open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday, December 26. Open 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 24, and closed on Christmas Day.
Holiday Promotion: Friends ride free! Every fare paying adult can bring one guest on board with them at no cost on Christmas Day (Sunday, Dec. 25). Youth 18 and under ride free with a Youth Opportunity Pass every day.
