Affirmed Housing is expected to begin construction on a new transit-oriented development at Spring Street station in La Mesa starting in late June 2026.
Construction at the station will close the transit parking lot for approximately two years starting June 24, 2026. During this time, a limited number of ADA spaces will remain available, but no general parking will be open. Riders can find alternative parking at nearby stations such as Grossmont and Massachusetts Avenue. Riders who can take the Green Line may also park at 70th Street Station.

A rendering of the planned development
The development will consist of:
- 145 affordable apartment homes and 2 manager apartment homes (247 bedrooms)
- 159 transit parking spaces
- 53 resident parking spaces
- Includes construction and maintenance of transit patron restroom and bus driver break area
The development is the latest property to get underway as MTS makes continued effort to develop its surplus land at transit centers. This effort helps provide MTS additional streams of revenue to support transit operations, provide more affordable housing to the region, and create greater access to transit ridership.
